This week on Americana Outdoors, we’re in South Texas rattling for whitetails and handgun hunting with Tony Miele, but first, we’re joining Wade Middleton in central Kansas for the opening day of muzzleloader season. This hunt is a special one for Wade as it’s been about thirteen to fourteen years since he’s made it up to Kansas for opening day of their muzzleloader season. When it comes to Kansas whitetail hunting, there’s one thing people will always tell you, “They’re big, they’re big, they’re BIG!” Before he sets off into the field, he spends some time at the range getting familiar with his Thompson/Center Impact!SB muzzleloader at the range.
When Wade and cameraman Jeff Reynolds make their way out to the field, they settle into a ground blind near a pond and wait for the deer to arrive. With this being opening day of muzzleloader season, the temperatures are still warm, and the deer are slow to appear. As the hours pass by and with only thirty minutes of legal shooting time left, the deer activity in the once quiet field exploded! Wade finally sets his sights on an impressively sized buck. Find out if his return to Kansas hunt is a success!
Up next, we’re heading over to South Texas, where Performance Center’s very own Tony Miele is returning for his annual tradition of rattling for whitetails in December. For Tony, there’s no comparison when it comes to rattling. As he puts it, “You’re busy all the time, you set up for about twenty minutes, you rattle, you always see some type of game.” For this hunt, Tony will be using the Performance Center 629 .44 Magnum Hunter. By and large, this is his favorite gun to go deer hunting with. This handgun is reliable and gets the job done. As Tony sets out for a whitetail, he and Wade move locations several times throughout the day in order to keep the deer moving. At their last spot, a large buck takes interest in the rattles and reveals himself, opening up for the perfect shot opportunity. Throughout the episode, we’ll also hear several handgun hunting tips from Wade, and hear his opinion on why, if you haven’t tried hand gun hunting yet, you should give it a shot!
